Welcome Narrow Gauge Coffee & Cafe, where community meets craft and every cup comes with a story. Narrow Gauge Coffee & Cafe is proudly owned and operated by Nell and John Hass, two Newton natives with deep roots in the community and a shared passion for great coffee, good food, and warm, welcoming spaces.
Their journey began right here. They grew up in Newton, fell in love, and were married at the historic Newton Depot on August 19, 2018, just a short walk from where the café stands today.
Together, they’ve built a life centered on family, hospitality, and community. Nell and John are proud parents to two young daughters, Vera and Hazel, who inspire their dedication to creating a space that feels like home for everyone who walks through the door.
Their love for hospitality began with Whisk & Barrel, and in September 2022, they took on a new adventure by purchasing what was formerly Narrow Coffee & Nosh and reimagining it as Narrow Gauge Coffee & Cafe. With a nod to the town’s rail history and the charm of narrow gauge tracks, the café reflects their desire to slow down, connect, and celebrate the little things that make life special.
In 2024, Nell and John brought Narrow Gauge Coffee & Cafe to Conover Station, extending their commitment to handcrafted drinks, fresh food, and genuine connection to more of the local community. Whether you’re visiting us in Newton or Conover, you’ll find the same heart, quality, and hospitality in every detail.
